I almost titled this post Blogging? because it was a big question mark for me. I “started a blog” on blogger about three years ago and the reason for the quotations is that I wrote two posts, never published them and never gave it another thought until recently. I attended a summit through work a couple months ago and one of the lead speakers was Angela Duckworth, author of Grit. She spoke about how people who love what they do have passion and perseverance aka grit and therefore they succeed at what they do. I started wondering if I was really passionate about my finance job or just good at it. I won’t give the answer in case my boss ever reads this.
Then I asked myself the big questions – Is there anything I’m good at and also really enjoy? What am I passionate about? WHAT THE HECK DO I WANT TO BE WHEN I GROW UP? I am 31 and often ask myself what I want to be when I grow up and honestly I still don’t know, but what I do know is that I need a creative outlet. I used to draw and do tons of arts and crafts when I was young. As I got older I got into photography and home decor. Don’t get me wrong, I still feel like I’m creative, but never have the time or never make the time for fun projects.
I also LOVE entertaining. I love throwing parties for any kind of event – holidays, birthdays, engagements, anniversaries, change of season! I’ve been told I throw a hell of a tailgate party. There is nothing better than inspiring others to have fun. In November I had the pleasure of throwing the biggest and best party of my life – my wedding! I put so much (time, heart, energy, $) into planning our wedding and it was beyond amazing if I do say so myself. So, what is something I could do “when I grow up” that I would actually enjoy and believe I would be great at? Party Planning!
This isn’t exactly the best time in my life to quit my day job and start a business, but thinking about one day having that as a goal is what led me to start this site. I did tons of research and found that not only can blogging be a creative outlet, but it can help start a successful business (and can even be a successful business). So why not? One of the most helpful things I read during my research was “just start.”
Now, where to start?
I knew I wanted to use WordPress (recommended everywhere), but it took me quite a while to decide which host to use (went with Bluehost, which is offered at a discount through multiple blogs about blogging).
These are some of the posts about blogging that I found helpful:
Hopefully by sharing my experiences here I can help inspire others to bring more fun into their lives!
